Thing #2

  • How did you decide on your posting name and the name of your blog?

  • What was your experience in creating the blog? Was it hard for you or easy? Why?

  • How does your avatar reflect your personality? Did you create an avatar that looks like your real self or someone totally different? Why?

I developed my posting name simply by using my name. While I could have been more creative, I believe using my name fits the purpose of this blog. My blog is documenting what I am learning. I would not say creating my blog was difficult, but unfamiliar. Having never done anything like this before, I hope to use the learning experience to its ultimate benefit.

  • Creating my avatar was fun. I believe to a certain extent it reflects my real self. It is definitely not something totally different. I do not really know why I chose to do it this way. I guess I did not realize that we could create something completely different. My avatar reflects my personality through the camo shirt. Being from a small town, I spent lots of time in the woods with my step dad. I am not a big hunter, but I always enjoyed the time with my dad.

    Thing #1

The lifelong learning habits that I find to be the hardest are habits 4 and 7 1/2. Habit four is "Having confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner". I find this habit hard for a few reasons. I began my college career with aspirations of becoming a nurse. However, I received the letter in the mail stating to try again next time. I have a great desire to teach and I do not feel that I am headed in the wrong direction; but having failed once I often question my ability to succeed.

I also find habit four "Play" challenging. Between school, work, sorority duties, and life in general finding time to play is difficult. At the same time, when you do take that moment to be spontaneous, in the back of your mind you know that there is something else higher on your list of priorities. I have been able to take advantage of our wonderful snow days. You are never too old to go sledding...at least that's what I told myself.

The habit I find the easiest is habit seven "teach/mentor others". I tutor once a month for Tri-County Upward Bound. It is a program designed for economically disadvantage high school students. The goal of the program is to provide them with what they need to succeed in college. I was part of the program myself in high school and in so many ways it has contributed to my success. Being able to share my knowledge with these students is a blessing. Also, I am given the opportunity to learn from them. I believe each person despite their age has something to teach us.

Through Web 2.0 and setting up my blog I have realized just exactly how technology challenge I am. I am thankful for the step by step directions, without them I would be terribly lost. Though the program is challenging , I believe it is going to be beneficial to my career.
