To be continued...Thing #24

  • What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
I liked the idea of having an online calender, and it definately something I plan to keep using. Keeping up with college life is just too complicated for pencil and paper.
  • How has this program affected your lifelong learning goals?
It has shown me that technology is going to continue to change and the I need to continue  keeping up with it. My students will know what is going on, so I should too.

  • Were there any take-a-ways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?
I feel like I ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would. I began the program thinking that it was just busy work. However, by the time I ended the program I had had lots of fun. Especially with designing the video.
  • What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept?
I think that it could be more integrated with the course work. Sometimes I felt like I was taking two classes and not just one.
  • How will what you have learned influence your practice as a teacher?
It has shown mean that there are many tools out there that I can use to enhance my teaching techniques.
  • How do you plan to keep up with new developments in web 2.0? Recommend a way that you have found to be useful
I think I will try to continue to blog and keep up with my RSS feeders.

As far as a resolution for my blog...I think I will try to blog once a week, along with trying to keep up with the other blogs that I follow.

Thing # 23

To find out that Learning 2.0-23Things for Teachers blog was based on someon else's work and modified from its original, I search for Learning 2.0-23Things for Teachers blog in the creative commons website.  I found various websites such as http://misd23things.blogspot.com/2008/05/23-things_29.html. This set of 23 things is similar to the 23 things I am completing but differs as well.
This blog also mentions the idea in which it was originally borrowed from.

I believe using Creative Commons licensing is important in my future of being a teacher. Having a site that I know it is legally acceptable to borrow material is a relief. I have no desire to be in trouble with the copy right police. I think I will be able to use Creative Commons to assist in my lesson plans and to contribute to my teaching.

Thing # 22

http://livebinders.com/play/play_or_edit?id=85225

I titled my binders Anna, Fun Resources, and APSU 23 Things.  The binder ,Anna, includes tabs that I use for education such as my email. The Fun Resources binder includes tabs from our Diigo website that are interactive. My third binder and the one I have shared APSU 23 Things, includes tabs to my favorite blogs I have encountered throughout my journey in this course.

LiveBinders could be used in many different ways in the classroom. I think it would be great for students to use to organize their research when working on a project. I myself might try it. Having all your sources in one spot, would make it easier to go back and refer to them rather than having them in several different windows.

Thing # 19

I have recently joined the online communities TeacherPop and Goodreads. I found many of the others interesting, but I do not see myself being very active in what they have to offer. What I liked about TeacherPop is that I am conversing with other teachers. I believe sharring knowledge is essential to being an effective teacher. I chose Goodreads because I like to read and being able to discuss books you have read with your friends is always fun. I feel that I could potentially continue to use both of these sites, however I am not sure that I will. Facebook tends to be the central ground for me. On facebook I can converse with teachers, along with discussing books with friends. I don't find it nessecary to have a different social network for both.

Also to complete thing 19 I left a comment for another member on TeacherPop and I uploaded photo.

Thing #21

Annalisa

I had a blast with Animoto! What a fun way to share your photos. If I taught older students, this would be a great performance based assesment. A teacher could also use it as a way for students to introduce themselves. I found this website very easy to use and just a lot of fun.

Thing #20

I think that youtube is excellent. It has brought much laughter to my life and through this class I have become more aware of how educational youtube can be. I also used youtube excessively for some of my science classes. If you ever need to know the blood flow of the heart, youtube is the place to go! What I dislike about the site is just how much trash is posted, but on the bright side you chose what you want to watch. I think it would be nice to have video tutorials posted on the library website that tell you how to access all of its wonderful traits. For example, though you are told over and over how to access journal articles, having a video would just make it that much easier.

Thing #18

http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/profile.php?id=699962641

I had already had a facebook account and through another thing activity I created a twitter account. I decided to post my facebook account because it is the social network that I use the most. I believe both accounts work great for social networking. I find it a little over obsessive to have more than one social networking site. I believe it is important for educatory to know how social networking sites work, so that they are aware of what their students our up to. With the rise of cyber bullying, teacher's need to be aware of how their students are communicating.

I like how each site was easy to maneuver. It is as if your friends are right at your finger tips. I feel like facebook is more of a social networking site than twitter is. However, it is just because that is the way I use it. With my twitter account, I am following blogs that will help with my future career rather than keeping up with my friends lunch schedules. I dislike twitter for this reason. Through facebook, I am interacting with friends through various means not by just updating my statuses.

I could see using social networking sites in the classroom. With so many students and parents partaking in these sites, I think it is a great way to communicate. By no means do I believe it should be your only source of communication, but I do believe for some parents it would be beneficial.
